A friend of mine told me today that they had to put her grandmother in a home years ago (Alzheimer's, I believe). They told her the home was a hotel, and she spent three years "holidaying" there. Happy as a lark.

The 36 Hour Day
Brilliant book, written to be read easily. I would not be able to handle this situation, had I not read it on my way here. Really good. If you're interested in Alzheimer's, or may be caring for someone with Alzheimer's at some point, I highly recommend this book.
